December 2011

Remember that DOT safety and compliance is not only for yourself but for fellow drivers as well.  If you see something that is un-safe and not in compliance please point it out to the teammate and if necessary to the office.

November 2011

For safety and to simplify compliance with DOT Load Securement Regulations regarding 2 tie downs in first 10’.  Company policy now requires 2 tie downs within the first 6’ on all cargo.

October 2011

We want to thank you all for your help in constant improvement in DOT violations; we are improving and need to continue to do so.  You are Team Shark’s greatest tool in DOT and safety.  Thank you.

September 2011

Overall we have been doing much better on DOT in regards to load securement and Hours of Service.  However, we need to continue the improvement.  Safety can always be better.

In an effort to help make your jobs a little easier we are providing each driver with 2 2” portable winch straps.

We are passing out now so if you have not received yours come to shop and we will sign you out 2.

June 2011

We appreciate all you guys who are helping.  We want to remind you that a clean truck and polite driver will get into less trouble.  An officer would assume too lazy to clean the truck, that good chance too lazy to complete a Log book or Secure a load properly. Try to put yourself in a DOT Officer’s shoes: if there are multiple trucks in a row and you are going to inspect 1 and let one go.  Will it be the clean and at first glance properly tied down load or the dirty truck that appears to not have enough straps on his load that gets to drive away????

May 2011

We have noticed quite a few straps being placed against sharp objects that will cut them.  A few of you have been warned and few fined, from now on you will be fined.

Another safety issue is winches over tires.  Please secure the winches away from the tires.  If a tire impacts a winch it may damage to the tire, resulting in you being delayed dealing with a damaged tire or in trouble with DOT, costing you time and money—and possibly going against your permanent record.

As well as the obvious SAFETY issue.
